Guanacaste Tours offers one of the best places for mountain biking in Costa Rica. Our Tropical Trails Singletrack Mountain Bike Tour is the home to one of the toughest mountain bike tracks in the world and the only biking trails in Costa Rica that are on an active volcano! Peddle and coast along your choice of three different routes, from beginner to advanced. Each option takes you on shaded mountain trails through the pristine Guanacaste jungle where there is always a good chance to encounter incredible wildlife.

Starting at 500 meters above sea level, the Tropical Trails Mountain Biking Tour takes you past the remarkable Oropendula Waterfall. This is the perfect location half-way through your tour to stop and take a refreshing dip in the river’s crystal blue water. Or book in for a One Day Adventure Pass that includes a full day of excitement, including horseback riding, waterfall swimming, mountain biking, river tubing and zip lining — for a day you’ll surely never forget!

Our trails are covered and maintained with a combination mulch made from shredded plant debris and sawdust which binds the soil in place and helps to soak up rain water and reduces the mud during the rainy season. There are a few mud holes on the more difficult for hard-core purists! The challenging sections of the trail include natural obstacles like rocks and roots, as well as wooden beams, tabletops, and other man-made hurdles that increase the fun for those who enjoy pushing themselves to the limit.

The beginner and intermediate trails have been groomed to allow newer riders to have a great experience. The trails are wide enough to avoid most obstacles and the inclines are modest, making for a more leisurely ride. All of our mountain biking trails are marked for levels of expertise recommended to ride them.

Guanacaste Tours Jungle Mountain Biking Details

Guanacaste Tours’ bike rental offers hardtail or full-suspension bicycles for adults, sizes Medium and Large, with frames of 26” and 28” respectively. We have optional motorized bicycles for those who want support to climb hills. We do not carry bicycles for kids.

BEGINNER: 12.5 km ride (7.7 miles); Ascent: 5.5 km (3.4 miles); Descent: 7 km (4.3 miles); Duration 1.5 – 2.5 hours. Minimal experience is required for the Beginner Tour.

INTERMEDIATE: 16 km ride (10 miles); Ascent: 5.5 km (3.4 miles); Descent with ups and downs: 10.5 km (6.5 miles); Duration 2 – 3 hours.

EXPERT: 30 km ride (18.7 miles). The first half of the ride involves 5.5 km (3.4 miles) of ascent and 7 km (4.3 miles) of descent with ups and downs. The second half rides singletrack 17.5 km (11 miles) alongside the Rincon de la Vieja National Park on variable terrain with ups and downs; mostly under forest tree cover. Duration: 3 – 4 hours.

TOUR DURATION: Beginner: 1.5 – 2.5 hours; Intermediate: 2 – 3 hours; Expert: 3 – 4 hours.

RATES: Full suspension mountain bike: Beginner $85.00 / Intermediate $97.50 / Expert $110.00

TOURS INCLUDE: Full suspension mountain bike, helmet, gloves, fruit and water or hydrating drink, and Bilingual Mountain biking guides (English-Spanish).

MINIMUM: 2 people; or the tour can be operated with only one person with an extra charge of $20 USD.
